Amber Mace, California Sea Grant alumna, is one of four new appointees to the 15-member National Sea Grant Advisory Board, which advises NOAA leadership on policies in marine science administration.
Mace is currently associate director of UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment and the Economy and prior to this was executive director of the California Ocean Protection Council and assistant secretary for coastal matters at the California Natural Resources Agency.
“I am grateful for all of the doors that Sea Grant has opened for me from research funding to support for my graduate work in marine ecology to policy fellowships at the state and federal levels,” Mace said in a NOAA press release. “It is an honor to serve as a member of the Advisory Board and a great opportunity to return the favor and help support this important national program.”
Mace was a National Sea Grant John A. Knauss Fellow in the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, a California Sea Grant State Fellow at the California Natural Resources Agency and a California Sea Grant Trainee while a graduate student at UC Davis. She holds a doctorate in ecology from UC Davis and a bachelor’s degree in geography from UC Berkeley.

Dale Baker, former associate director and extension program leader for New York Sea Grant.
Paulinus Chigbu, professor of marine science with the University of Maryland and director of the NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center.
Rosanne Fortner, education coordinator for Ohio Sea Grant, specializing in crafting marine science education, research and curricula.
