Abigail Ryder will graduate with a master's degree in ecology from San Diego State University in 2020. Her research focuses on the carbon flux of eelgrass beds in San Diego Bay.

She has also worked with the US Environmental Protection Agency as an environmental protection specialist in the Division of Hazardous Waste, with the San Diego Wild Animal Park as an educational coordinator, and with the Audubon Society's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary as a natural history teacher.

Ryder will be working on a project with the California Energy Commission on floating wind turbines for California's first off-shore windfarm.
