California Sea Grant Extension Specialist Receives The Maritime Alliance Sustainable Seafood Award

La Jolla, Calif. – California Sea Grant Extension Specialist Theresa Sinicrope Talley was recognized for her efforts to raise public awareness of local seafood and was presented with the Maritime Alliance Sustainable Seafood Award during the 7th annual Maritime Gala Dinner & Award Ceremony on November 9.
“Theresa has been instrumental in strengthening the local food supply chain by facilitating diverse and native seafood in the region,” Michael B. Jones President of The Maritime Alliance & TMA Foundation said. “Through her research to identify barriers of getting locally-sourced seafood to the public, Theresa helped generate unified support of urban coastal direct seafood markets from fishermen, nutritionists, politicians, and community stakeholders.”
The Maritime Alliance fosters maritime business and technology innovation through collaboration in the United States and around the world. Each year, The Maritime Alliance honors a select number of individuals and organizations for their work in the Blue Economy during the Maritime Gala Dinner & Award Ceremony.
California Sea Grant (CASG) Extension Specialists work in coastal communities across the state, identifying emerging marine resource problems and opportunities, conducting applied research, and sharing findings with stakeholders. Talley is based at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.
