Satterthwaite holds a joint position in which she is a California Sea Grant Extension Specialist and Program Coordinator for California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI). CalCOFI, under the leadership of Satterthwaite, is expanding the utility and impact of their data and monitoring efforts by engaging and working with stakeholders.

CalCOFI is 72-year-old program that conducts expansive surveys of the integrated physical, biological, geological, and chemical qualities of the California Current. CalCOFI data—a unique historical record—is used globally to understand the impacts of El Niño and other climate patterns, and to assess the effects of global change on the world’s oceans.
