What is California Sea Grant? An introduction to a state-wide science resource

DateFriday, January 18, 2019 | 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM
Location

Based at Scripps Institution of Oceanography is California Sea Grant, a collaboration of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the State of California and universities across the state, that discovers and applies scientific knowledge to benefit the economy, the environment and the citizens of California.

California Sea Grant, probably most known for its research funding capacity, also has applied research, outreach, training, and communication elements that may help Scripps and the broader UCSD community meet project objectives, fulfill strategic initiatives, and, ultimately, more effectively address California's coastal and marine needs.

This discussion will include a brief history of the National Sea Grant College Program, an overview of the main goals and functions of California Sea Grant, and a few examples of the interdisciplinary projects undertaken locally by the California Sea Grant Extension team.
