California Sea Grant is excited to welcome Mina Orlic to the Communications team as the new Science Communications Associate. She will be using her digital media skills to promote California Sea Grant’s research, outreach and education efforts to broader audiences.
Mina earned her B.A. in Communication and a minor in Multimedia Writing from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), where she gained experience in multimedia storytelling, website content management and layout design. As an undergraduate student, she served as lead production editor for UCSB’s Daily Nexus and worked as a multimedia intern for California Sea Grant Extension Specialist Carolynn Culver.
In her time as Culver’s intern, Mina contributed to a variety of California Sea Grant projects, most notably the creation of a digital marketing guide for seafood producers and the redesign of public-facing informational signage in Santa Barbara Harbor. She will use her previous experience working directly under an Extension Specialist to bring a unique perspective to the Communications team.
“I am thrilled to continue my career with California Sea Grant,” said Mina. “Effective communication plays a vital role in making research accessible and relevant, and I look forward to highlighting the incredible work happening across the program.”
When not working, Mina enjoys exploring local farmers markets, reading in the park and playing and coaching volleyball.
